A/Behind the Scenes: Jaz Fenton

FR: Who is Jaz?

JF: I’m an entrepreneur who loves all things design and nature.

FR: One of Yellow Beauty’s causes is ending child marriage in Bangladesh. Can you tell us a little bit about this noble pursuit?

JF: One of Jamil's fondest memories was attending the Holud (turmeric) ceremony at a family wedding in Bangladesh. Years later when we were creating our first product for Yellow Beauty, Jamil and his mother got to reminiscing. It was only then that Jamil learned how his grandmother was married at just 9 years old. Unfortunately, we also discovered that a third of the girls in Jamil's homeland are married before their 18th birthday. These girls deserve a voice. They deserve to choose. That’s why we’re proud to contribute 10% of our profits to Plan International Canada, a global organization focused on advancing children’s rights and equality for girls.

FR: All Yellow Beauty products are made of turmeric. Why turmeric?

JF: was struggling with redness and breakouts and wanted to find a natural solution that was super effective yet kind to my skin. Jamil suggested turmeric and I was really intrigued! Coming from Bangladesh, he was introduced to the rich history of turmeric-based skincare through his family. Curcumin, the primary bioactive substance in turmeric, works to reduce redness, brighten dark marks, even out skin tone, and protect you against free radicals. The first product we created worked so well on our skin that we decided to share it.

FR: At A/B we recently rebranded, and it helped us gain a fresh outlook on how to move forward, what was the intention behind Yellow Beauty's rebrand?

JF:  From day one, we’ve always been rooted in turmeric — and will continue to be — but we felt like our brand needed some room to grow with us. It was important for us to take a well-needed pause, reflect on our values, and make sure that our brand matured and better showcased our beliefs today. Our new look reflects our love for nature’s gifts, the choice to live intentionally, and the idea that our skin is ever-changing and ever-evolving. We’re here to support you—whatever your journey may be.

FR: How do you define natural beauty?

JF: I believe natural beauty is a mindset. There’s nothing more beautiful than unapologetically embracing your authentic self :)

FR: Tell us something no one knows about you!

JF: I’m not that secretive, so this is a hard question! Most people don’t know that I spent 10 years of my life training in Taekwondo.
